Healing Modalities

Here at WOVEN, I offer a wide array of healing modalities. Each session may incorporate several techniques to best address your needs: Therapeutic, Sports, Deep Tissue, Prenatal and Postpartum, Myofascial Release, Intraoral, Oncology, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Hawaiian Lomi Lomi, Orthopedic Assessment and Treatment, and Trigger Point Therapy.

This approach can relieve stress, be both stimulating or soothing, and help to create inner balance and harmony. It can combine several modalities, and in turn mobilizes soft tissues to restore normal systemic, biomechanical and functional use.

For athletic and non-athletic clients alike, this modality is an invigorating treatment geared toward increased circulation, vitality, and alleviating stiff and sore musculature. Compressive and rejuvenating strokes, along with stretching and range of motion techniques facilitate more rapid recovery from post sport or overuse in our daily lives.

Deep Tissue

Its aim is to address myofascial pain patterns felt in the body and in my particular style, to assist in correcting chronic postural imbalances and compensations from injuries, repetitive overuse, and emotional stress. This treatment accesses the deepest layers of muscles, fascia (connective tissue wrappings), tendons, and ligaments. I usually combine slow, intentional depth applied using the client’s breath and comfort level to guide the benefits of this work.

Prenatal and Postpartum

A combination of gentle modalities to address wellness and balance before and after labor. Before labor, relaxation, increased circulation, and postural changes are important considerations. Post-Partum bodywork encompasses these aspects, along with a particular emphasis on restoring functional and structural balance. Trigger Point Therapy, Swedish, Myofascial Release, and Deep Tissue are often synthesized to create a lasting experience for women to feel their best.

An effective, manual technique that works both the muscles of the inside and outside mouth, neck and throat. It is especially helpful for clients experiencing symptoms related to TMJ Dysfunction, yet is also beneficial for anyone suffering from issues such as headaches, cervical myofascial pain, and emotional stress.

Myofascial Release

This technique is a gentle stretching and opening of the connective tissue layers wrapping muscles, tendons, ligaments and organs of the body. Its intent is to create space for these layers to move and function most optimally, and I also combine this work with the goal of addressing chronic musculoskeletal tension and postural alignment issues.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

A rhythmic, circular and gentle technique applied at the skin layer with deep effects. It assists in redirecting fluid from swollen areas to healthy lymphatic vessels, thereby transporting it back to the circulatory system where these waste products are processed and eliminated. MLD is very effective for a host of orthopedic and oncologic conditions where there is mild to moderate edema, or mild lymphedema from surgical procedures and radiation therapy.

In this treatment, I draw upon my specific training in working with clients receiving cancer care to craft treatments that are safe and effective. It is most often a gentle combination of modalities such as Swedish, Trigger Point Therapy, and restorative stretching that are applied. It is especially helpful during treatment to address symptoms such as nausea, myofascial pain, fatigue and anxiety. Combined with Manual Lymphatic Drainage, it is additionally helpful in addressing mild lymphedema due to radiation therapy and surgical procedures.

Lomi Lomi

An ancient branch of Native Hawaiian medicine, which serves to connect the client to the land (‘aina), the spirit guides or ancestors (‘aumakua) and the breath of life (aloha). The rhythmic strokes combine long, sweeping strokes simulating waves washing over you, with presence and loving touch. Your cells are bathed in a newfound balance (lokahi).

Trigger Point Therapy

Myofascial trigger points are a notoriously common cause of pain. They are tender when pressed, cause a shortening of muscle fibers, and produce a referred pain felt elsewhere in the body. This effective technique applies a focal pressure to dismantle these trigger points, and aims to restore proper ease and muscular balance. It is beneficial for a wide array of acute and chronic conditions.

Orthopedic Assessment & Treatment

A dynamic blend of soft tissue modalities to address muscular and soft tissue pain, dysfunction, and injury. It assists in clients regaining mobility and functionality in their daily lives. I perform a visual assessment in gravity to determine compensations and imbalances, then apply resistive and myofascial techniques to facilitate increased mobility and poise in their alignment. Effective for athletes, repetitive overuse at home and work, and pre and postoperative conditions.
